Monday
Purple Black Rice(紫黒米ごはん)
Milk(牛乳)
Deep fried tofu with vegetable boiled in syrup(がんもどきの含め煮)
Burdock root with vinegar sesame dressing(ごぼうのごま酢和え)
Miso soup with potatoes(じゃがいものみそ汁)
749 Kcal
25 g of protein
The black part of the rice seemed to be something resembling wild rice.
The purple part was the red shiso. (It's called red, but it's clearly purple. This follows the Japanese mandate that colours should not make sense.) As unappetizing as the English description sounds, everything was pretty good. The deep fried tofu thing is kind of like a tofu/vegetable patty.
Not really related to the food, but today lunch was served in the cooking room. Usually the teachers eat in the cafeteria, which is either a furnace, or a freezer depending on whatever unfortunate time you find yourself in. In the cooking room, one of the powers that be granted the teachers power to utilize the kerosene heater. And by heater, I mean the gateway to hell. The sound when it turns on resembles that scene in event horizon when they watch that video of the former crewmembers experiencing hell. The only difference is that this furnace has nothing to do with technology past 1950. It’s warm, but I’m not all that convinced it’s not fueled by children’s screams.
