German potatoes seem to just be potato salad with bacon and parsley. I can’t remember exactly what we call German potato salad in America, but this is the Japanese version of that. Japanese potato salad tends to have very boiled potatoes and lots of Japanese mayonnaise. Japanese mayonnaise is...different than American mayonnaise. I think it’s sweeter or something, I’m not sure exactly. Maybe it’s tangier. Whatever it is, I just like that Japanese mayonnaise is always served in a squeezable bottle. Not too mention that it looks almost exactly like the glue bottles used in offices.
Japan loves its tonkatsu, breaded fried pork cutlet. “Ton” is another way of saying pig and “katsu” is short for the English-derived word “katsuretto”, cutlet. This is a staple of a lot of the lunches you see at the convenience and grocery stores. Usually fried things aren’t too great cold, but tonkatsu is usually still good.
The soup was good, basically an egg drop soup with crab particles floating in it. Japan uses real crab unlike in America where I recently found out that all those “crab” dishes are just imitation crab sticks actually called “krab”. Krab is made from fish paste.
The ponkan makes its appearance today as part of the affirmative orange action. My ponkan had about 12 seeds in it today. I only bit into three of them this time, I guess that’s what they call mastery.
