Kyuushoku for 11 May

Tuesday

Cocoa bread roll(小ココアパン)
Milk(牛乳)
Creamy potato stew(じゃがいものミルク煮)
Mimosa salad(ミモザサラダ)
Sweet summer Satsuma(あま夏みかん)

756 Kcal
30.9 g of protein

The potato stew was pretty nice. They certainly didn’t skimp on the potatoes. The stew is actually called a “milk stew”, but I guess that’s because Japanese milk is almost cream.

Apparently mimosa is a kind of tree. When I saw the name of the salad, all I could think of was drinking orange juice and champagne. Images of kyuushoku being served on the lawn of a pristine New English mansion came to my mind. Unfortunately, I woke up to a dreary lunchroom with shrieking teachers.

Why were they shrieking? It’s special bread day, that’s why. Most of the teacher treat it like Christmas and talk all day about how today’s special bread will taste. Then there is the teacher that didn’t know about special bread day and exclaims, “OMFG! WHY IS THIS BREAD A DARK COLOR?!?!” The other teachers calm her down and explain the scientific properties of cocoa. You know, the mysterious reaction that makes chocolatey goods dark. Reason returns and we all taste the bread. It tastes like someone added cocoa powder to the bread when it was cooking. An incredibly surprising conclusion to special bread day.

The bread wasn’t bad, but I don’t recommend the lunch ladies repeat this one. The bread isn’t really sweet, it just has a hint of that bitter cocoa taste.

Which goes really terribly with the orange disaster served today. This orange thing only exists to annoy me. It’s impossible to eat and when you do eat it, all you can taste is sour and seeds. This wasn’t as offensive as the last orange disaster, but we’re cutting it close.

Mimosa trees are abundant in SE Texas. So maybe when you get home and go down to Orange you can get some of the ingredients for this recipe....
