JLPT

So I took the JLPT (2nd level) today. I'm not exactly sure how I did. There were three parts: writing/vocabulary, listening and reading/grammar. The Japanese used on the test is all Japanese I either barely hear or have only read in books or newspapers. My brain is pretty much worn out from that.

The only observation I have is that the test takers today were almost all Asian foreigners. Even though a good 90% of the people at the test site were speakers of Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese...everything that wasn't written in Japanese was written in English. The Japanese idea that "foreign=English" really didn't apply today. I realize that English has become the unofficial international language, but it makes me wonder when Japan will begin to highlight the importance of learning other languages, especially Asian languages. Not a great example, but it seems to me to be the equivalent of learning French in Kansas while there are many Spanish speakers all around. (Or like me learning Japanese...)

Apparently we won't get our test results back until mid-February. Budget cuts must limit the JLPT association to one scantron machine or something... Hopefully the letter will carry some good news. Hopefully...
