I accidentally stumbled onto my site again and realize I have not updated in far too long. It's not really that I've been busy, just lazy.
I should make a real post sometime soon and I will get to that after this week.
Anyway, a quick update of life in Japan...
Hyogo got floinked pretty bad leaving a lot of schools with its doors closed for weeks. My junior high school had about four to five weeks with at least one class gone. This was during the time of the all too "important" culture festival. Since the 7th and 9th graders were out from the flu, the powers to be decided to delay the culture festival. This was only about the most exciting thing I have heard all year. The festival was to take place the Saturday I would be in Australia for a friend's wedding. When I got back to school from the mini-vacation down under, I found out that the 8th graders were called into "floink leave" and the powers to be decided to ultimately cancel the school festival.
During all of this they kept on trying to get me to wear a surgical mask and I figured out the best way to avoid wearing the moist germ magnet. If I had a cup of coffee in front of me, I wouldn't have to wear a mask, since everyone agreed that you can't drink with a mask on. So all in all it took me about seven hours to finish one and half cups of coffee during that week.
Starting from this week, it's officially kerosene season in the Fortunate House. Kerosene heaters may be dangerous and smell not so nice, but they're cheaper and more effective than anything available. I don't really mind the smell, but I suspect that I may be allergic to it since my eyes have been killing me since I turned on the flaming beast.
This weekend I will take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. As this will be my first test since leaving university in 2007, I'm a little nervous. Even if I fail, I figure that getting the internet, a cell phone, a good deal on car insurance etc. all in Japanese in a decent enough certification anyway.
I'll leave you with herbivore men. Just read the story. The other day I was shopping with a friend and she ended up accidentally buying men's pants. I also have a picture (which I have yet to upload) of what I am pretty sure is Joan Crawford's nightgown being sold as a man's "casual jacket" in a local clothing store.
