The egg/cheese salad is probably one of my favourite kyuushokus. Well besides that Russian menu day that had all the kids freaking out over their red soup. Today I finally figured out which part of it is the egg and which part of it is the cheese. Yes, in Japan these are easily mistaken. I’ve figured out that the eggs are scrambled and the cheese is cut into tiny cubes. I was kind of afraid that the white cubes were tiny pieces of hard boiled eggs and I was always trying to ignore that they might possibly be parts of a boiled egg and I actually liked it.
The corn stew was exactly what you’d think corn stew would be. Corny and stewy. Fun fact: the Japanese word for a western style stew sounds like “she chew”, which is supposed to sound like “stew”. To be fair, we’ve butchered their word karaoke pretty badly (although half of that word is technically of English origin...)
Today was another orange affirmative action day. The hassaku orange is pretty much like a navel orange, but I think it’s sourer. The lunch ladies make it really hard to eat by always cutting it into quarters. Try eating an orange like that. It’s impossible.
