Kyuushoku for 21 April

Wednesday
A taste of home

White rice(ごはん)
Milk(牛乳)
Spanish mackerel with leaf bud miso(サワラの木の芽みそ)
Bamboo shoots with fish flakes(たけのこのおかか煮)
Egg drop soup(かきたま汁)
Strawberries(いちご)

37.8 g of protein

The mackerel was topped with a “leaf bud miso” sauce, but I couldn’t really tell what the leaf bud taste was. It kind of looked like parsley, but its taste is yet to be understood. (to borrow the passive tense from the 8th grade textbook)

I swear, today everyone has been talking about the bamboo shoots constantly. Just now, the tea lady and the nurse have finished their twenty-minute discussion on the wonders of bamboo shoots. The tea lady was sharing a recipe for bamboo shoot rice. I’ll spare you the twenty minute conversation, you put a dash of sake, a dash of mirin and some raw bamboo shoots in with your rice and voila, an incredibly simple dish that can be talked about longer than the 3 seconds of preparation.

I like this Japanese egg drop soup thing. Inside the soup is: eggs (obviously), fish paste tube, onions, carrots, seaweed and a few other unrecognizables.

The strawberries were very good. The kyuushoku strawberries are always good. Unlike the ones I find in the supermarket.
