Today was the Okinawa menu. A couple of the kids were pretty excited about it during second period. These are the same kids that wrote “I love poop” on a nametag and stuck it on each other’s backs.
The pork thing was nice, but really hard to pick up with chopsticks. I was really struggling to pick them up, but then I noticed that everyone else was as well.
Goya champul is the epitome of Okinawa cuisine it seems. Goya is a bitter melon and is stir-fried with eggs, onions and tofu. Some other vegetables are in there as well. One teacher was complaining about how bitter the goya was, but I thought it was fine.
The Okinawa white miso soup is ok, but I think I may just not like white miso. It’s a bit sweeter compared to the other misos or something. I can’t describe it, but I’d rather have normal miso.
Since it was pretty warm today, the frozen pineapple jelly was served just cold. I haven’t had cold, not frozen, jelly in such a long time. I think I may prefer it cold from now on. The taste wasn’t as pineapple-y as promised.
