The rice was really good today. According to the lunchtime announcements, this “mixed rice” consists of: soy beans, corn millet, oats, brown rice and some other “field goodness”. The tea lady threw almost all of hers away though. But then again, she’s proudly proclaimed to us all that she prefers food without any taste whatsoever.

The trout was good, but maybe a bit less salty than usually.

I like this vinegar seaweed and cucumber salad looking thing. I guess if you don’t like vinegar, you won’t like this.

The egg drop soup was nice. It’s about the only non-miso soup that I can approve. The others are poor substitutions.

Frozen oranges are a special thing for the summer. I’ve never had an actual frozen one though. Since by the time lunch begins, the oranges have melted. So instead, the orange is just really cold. I’ve actually since a really intense “frozen orange” recipe on the back of the kyuushoku menu before. I think the lunch ladies just want the children’s unwavering devotion. So they make something as easy as freezing an orange into a convoluted recipe that no one can follow.
