Hard-boiled egg(ゆでたまご)
Cabbage with almond dressing(キャベツのアーモンド和え)

Japanese curry rice was my first favourite Japanese food. If I tell any Japanese person, they think that’s really funny since they consider curry a western food. Japanese curry came from India via Britain, so the taste is really different from Indian curry. The only problem with curry rice in Japan is that if you order it at a restaurant, you are guaranteed to get the curry gravy with just meat. So it’s usually a let down. Luckily the lunch ladies are supposed to be healthy, so they always put a lot of vegetables in the curry as well. This makes it taste a lot better rather than just curry gravy on rice. Also, for some reason unknown to me, curry rice day always comes with barley rice. Since regular white rice just tastes like air, it’s nice to have something to give it some taste. But since you usually just dump curry all over it, there’s not a lot of point to it.
I really like the almond dressing that the lunch ladies make. It’s almost just like almond paste. I’ve tried it myself but I think I’m following the wrong recipe or something because I can never get it right. I’ll have to ask them myselves.
Unfortunately, curry rice day means hard-boiled egg. I think the lunch ladies always add the egg because the menu lacks protein without it or something. I loathe hard-boiled eggs and I really find it hard to find another food I despise so much. I always have to find creative ways to throw my egg away because otherwise I will get 20 questions from everyone in the office. Usually I can just put it back on the “seconds” plate that has extra food for anyone that wants it. Today though, I didn’t have that option as I was at an elementary school that just dishes everything out to everyone.
4 shishamo (minus one for the chicken abortion)
