A taste of home

Purple and black rice(紫黒米ごはん)
Milk(牛乳)
Fish paste tube with cheese(チーズのすりみ巻き)
Turnip and cabbage with sesame dressing(かぶとキャベッツのごま酢和え)
Ground soybeans in miso soup(呉汁)

736 Kcal
28.5 g of protein

Today is supposed to be an example of really traditional Japanese food. The only thing is that I don’t know how “traditional” cheese is. But it tastes good, so who cares. The cheese is put into this fish tube thing which is pretty much just a fish stick without breading. I don’t know if they make cheese fish sticks, but if they did, this would be the Japanese counterpart to it.

The soup apparently is very nostalgic for older Japanese people. All of the older Japanese teachers commented on how “nostalgic” the soup tasted. We don’t really use “nostalgic” in English, but it’s a pretty common word in Japanese. And come to think of it, a lot of people use nostalgic when referring to food. I just can’t imagine too many situations like that in English.

The salad today was pretty good and I’m very lucky that it was good. Since I had about two to three people’s portion of it today. If this would have been the trashy smoke salad, I would not have been so happy.
