Little fried fish with soybeans(じゃこと大豆の揚げ煮)
Thin strips of Japanese radish in vinegar(切り干しのハリハリ漬け)

Once again, I’m afraid that I’ve been in Japan too long. The tiny little fish didn’t bother me once again. I even got close to enjoying them. This could be some kind of kyuushoku Stockholm syndrome.
This morning when I got to this school, the tea lady read off the menu to me, making sure I was ok to eat everything. She does this every single time I come here and every single time I say, “Yes, I’ll it all of it”. The entire office is amused by this exchange. Everyone has to pipe in to say, “Wow, that’s so great of you to be able to eat all Japanese food.” Once I told a teacher, “Even tires are edible if you chew long enough.” I think she sent the ghosts of her ancestors after me or something to curse me with extra quail eggs at every meal.
I can’t really figure out what the salad thing was. I’ve had it many times at restaurants, in school lunch etc, but it’s still a mystery to me. I saw a package of it at the store once and it seemed to be dried strips of radish that you let soak in vinegar or something. Whatever it is, I like it.
The curry was the usual Japanese curry. And of course the lunch ladies served it with barley rice. There must be some connection with the two. They are always served together in kyuushoku. It goes pretty well together so I can’t complain.
