The office lady walked into lunch today and said, “Wow, today’s menu looks like something Scott-Sensei will like.” I hate to disappoint her, but she was pretty wrong. She saw bread, meat and a stew and instantly thought “western”. I saw sketchy shaped meat, oily vegetables and floating scallops and instantly though “Japanese”. How relative cuisine is.
So yes, this Salisbury steak thing was like the normal hamburg business but in stick form. This was the sketchiest meat I’ve had in kyuushoku so far. I hope it came from something regarded as livestock, but I have a feeling the more applicable name is “pest”.
The vegetables were ok. Usually these kind of boiled vegetables are supposed to be sandwich vegetables because Japanese people don’t eat raw veggies I guess. Usually these aren’t too bad, but today the flavour was “oil”. Appetizing.
The stew wouldn’t have been too terribly bad, but of course it’s watered down and they had to add scallops. I’m not a scallop fan and probably never will be. I’m just not too into shellfish. I don’t even know why they felt the need to add any meat anyway.
The Satsuma is not that at all. It’s like a sour navel orange. I don’t know why they call it a mikan. Maybe it’s related to it or something, but they don’t taste alike at all.
