Kyuushoku for 15 June

Tuesday
Taste of the world: India

Nan(ナン)
Milk(牛乳)
Chicken curry(チキンカレー)
Potato and asparagus salad(ポテトとアスパラのサラダ)
Andes melon(アンデスメロン)

749 Kcal
34.4 g of protein

The potato and asparagus salad was really good. There were a lot of potatoes and not as many asparagus but I guess that was ok with the asparagus. Japanese potato salad tends to be much better than its western cousins and today brought another point to the Japanese side.

Instead of the normal rice and bread, we got a nan with our meal. The nan wasn’t served hot, but lukewarm nan is better than the “soggy sitting-in-a-plastic-bag-all-day” nan I was expecting.

I’ve never heard of this Andes melon looking thing, but it looks and tastes a lot like a honeydew. Japan tends to just call this a “melon”. Considering melons of any kind are pretty expensive, I was surprised to see this in the school lunch. The cheapest honeydew I’ve seen is about $10 for a really small one.

The chicken curry was good, but of course it was sweet. Since all the kids have to eat everything in kyuushoku, the lunch ladies can’t make anything too spicy or exotic. It was still good though.

I always imagined that a conversation in Japanese about what naan is would be a lot like the "Who's on first, What's on second" skit.
