I was a little bit scared, after last Friday’s debacle, about the “horse mackerel” part of the meal. The culinary assault last Friday was dubbed “little horse mackerels” but like most things, the mackerel tastes better with age. The fish was pretty good. Not too salty but just right. Let these poor fish babies grow up before you grill them lunch ladies. I hope you learned your lesson.
I didn’t know that these were seaweed stalks. I’ve liked them for quite a while and just assumed it was something I would never know the name of. I can’t describe the taste, but I like it. Together with the seaweed stalks were carrots, tofu and chicken.
The lunch ladies redeemed themselves with a good miso soup today. I almost could forget the travesty of last Friday. Almost.
I’m really going to miss the concept of tomatoes as dessert. I’ll try to carry that one over the ocean.

Maybe the lunch ladies were tryin' to make it up to you.
Or maybe they just ate what they made.
