“Biwa” comes up in the dictionary as either loquat or Japanese medlar, none of these terms are helpful. Some people describe the biwa as a fig. I’ve never had a fig, so I’ll just have to trust them. In one biwa there are about six to eight stones, so that’s pretty surprising.
I was very happy to see that the Chinese stew wasn’t tainted with Satan’s eggs. Usually anything “Chinese” in kyuushoku means that those nasty quail eggs have to be included. I hope that when I leave Japan I will never have to see another quail egg.
I usually like the namul thing that they serve in kyuushoku. I suppose I should learn how to make it, but it looks so easy that I might be disappointed to find out just how easy it is.
